The Bilbao Airport Route Development Committee predicts connectivity levels “very close” to pre-pandemic’s by 2022

The connectivity of Bilbao Airport began a gradual recovery trend in the second half of 2021, which will be consolidated next year. “We expect to have connectivity levels very close to those we had before the pandemic, with even more powerful connections in the state market than those we had in 2019 due to the increase in local tourism, and with a significant recovery of international connections”, point out sources from the Bilbao Airport Routes Committee.

The re-establishment of connectivity at European level will be “slower than domestic connectivity and we will not reach the levels prior to the global health emergency in 2022″, explain the Bilbao Airport Route Development Committee. However, in addition to the connections already recovered in the second half of 2021, links will be added to relevant capitals such as Istanbul, Oslo, Vienna and Bucharest, as well as destinations in important markets such as France (Lyon) and Italy (Palermo, Cagliari and Naples).

As for new routes, Eurowings has confirmed the connection between the Biscayan capital and Hamburg, news that the Committee values as “very positive” given the negative evolution that the pandemic has been experiencing in recent weeks.

The Committee’s next objectives include, with a view to the summer of 2022, the recovery of destinations such as Stockholm, Athens and Prague, as well as the incorporation of some new ones such as Copenhagen.
