The Bilbao Airport Routes Committee is constantly working to ensure that the connectivity of the territory continues to be strengthened both nationally and internationally. The first big event of the year on its agenda has been FITUR, the leading tourism fair. “It is a great opportunity to get closer to those companies that have their own stand, the closest and most relevant ones. But we have also taken the opportunity to interact with international airlines and other agents in the industry”, said Committee sources.

Beneficial reinforcement

The meetings held in Madrid have strengthened Bilbao-Bizkaia’s contact with airlines such as Iberia, Vueling and Volotea, as well as confirming international operations in 2023 with Eurowings, Lufthansa, Edelweiss Air and Turkish Airlines, among others.

Also, the meeting with Aena’s Airport Marketing Department was also fruitful. “It is a team with which we collaborate regularly for the development of routes. As always, they were very participative and interested in giving us support when it came to informing the airlines”, they stressed. Among other issues, they took stock of the past year, analysed the prospects for the new season and reaffirmed joint strategies.

Next stop, Tangiers

The next major event on the agenda of the Routes Committee, important for setting new connectivity and operational projects for Bilbao-Bizkaia, will be the CONNECT Route Development Forum, which will take place on 22 February in Tangiers. Almost 400 agents from the sector, including airlines, airports and tourist delegations, will meet to establish and promote the future of the sector.
