August, another record month for Bilbao Airport
Bilbao Airport continues its particular climb, improving its records and historical records month after month. If last July was the best month in the history of the Biscayan infrastructure, the figures for August consolidate and reinforce the great moment La Paloma is going through. In the eighth month of the year, 668,814 travellers passed through the Bilbao Airport facilities, according to the figures provided by Aena.
A figure that represents the best figure for a month of August, surpassing the figure for August 2023 by 0.7%. A year ago, there were 664,039 passengers. The leap compared to 2022 is considerable, since at that time the figure was 572,094 passengers. With respect to 2019, a year that is still maintained as a pre-pandemic reference for the statistics, the increase in passenger traffic at Bilbao Airport is a very remarkable 18%.
International passengers continue to set the tone for this improvement in Bilbao Airport’s figures. As in July, foreign passengers improved notably (3.7%) to reach a total of 310,664 commercial passengers. On the other hand, domestic passenger numbers have stabilised, with a very slight decrease of 1.7%. Domestic passenger numbers reached 357,301 passengers during the month of August.
Air operations also experienced a minimal decrease, with 4,760 landing and take-off movements, 1.4% less than in the month of August 2023.
Cumulative data up to August
Operations in the first eight months of the year have reached 34,767 aircraft movements, 2.7% more than in the same period last year. Meanwhile, the airport has registered 4,514,590 passengers, 8.2% more than from January to August 2023.
