SAS airline to start a route to Copenhagen from Bilbao airport in the summer

The Department of Transport, Mobility and Tourism of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, in collaboration with Bilbao Air – a company for the promotion of Bilbao airport promoted by the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce – has announced that SAS – Scandinavian Airlines will be calling at Bilbao airport this summer with a route to Copenhagen.

SAS has informed the two entities, which are in constant contact with airlines to attract new companies and routes to Bilbao, that the connection will have two weekly frequencies (Mondays and Fridays) and will be operated from the end of June to mid-August, with the possibility of extending it until October. Tickets will be released today, and this route joins those already announced from Copenhagen to Madrid, Seville and Valencia.

For the Provincial Councillor of the Department of Transport, Mobility and Tourism, Sonia Pérez Ezquerra, ‘it is excellent news that the main airline of Denmark, Norway and Sweden has decided to bet on our airport. We already had this destination, but now the offer is wider and having an airline like SAS is the answer to our work to promote the airport that we have been doing with the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce through Bilbao Air’.

For her part, the Corporate Director of Bilbao Air, Inés Zalbide, believes that ‘we are reaping the rewards of the great effort we have been making for years on an international level. The excellent results of our airport in terms of passengers are accompanied by the support of flag carriers, who have gone from just listening to us and observing us to taking the step of knocking on our door and settling here because there is business and there is a future here’.

Likewise, for the Secretary General of the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, Mikel Arieta-araunabeña, ‘this is another example of the success of collaboration between entities. Together, and only together, we have managed to highlight the potential of Bilbao airport and the attractiveness of our Territory for both tourism and business. We will continue to work along these lines for the general benefit of our economy’.
