World Environment Day highlights the need to protect the natural resources around us. The airline industry is aware of its own limitations in this area and works to reduce its environmental impact.

Within Aena’s sustainable development strategy, Bilbao Airport maintains a firm commitment to reducing CO2 emissions, at the request of customers, administration and society in general. For this reason, it was awarded the ISO-14001 certification, renewable every three years, by AENOR.

This standard, ISO-14001, promotes environmental protection and pollution prevention, so organizations that have this distinction also have the possibility of systematizing the environmental aspects that they generate in their own activities.

This certification also offers a series of advantages in the environmental and economic fields. On the one hand, it helps to optimize the management of resources and waste, considerably reducing the environmental impact derived from the company’s activities. On the other hand, and in terms of the economy, it enhances innovation and productivity, which in turn is highly positive for the sustainability of processes, since technology is one of the keys to reducing the footprint of aviation carbon.
